Housing association – A private organisation that provides low-cost social housing for people in need of a home. Arms Length Managing Organisation (ALMO) or Tenants Management Organisation (TMO) – A company, group of residents or qualifying owners that provides housing services on behalf of a local authority. Charitable Trust – Registered charity founded to benefit a group of people, for example providing affordable housing to those who fall within the particular group.
Managing Agent – A person or company appointed by the freeholder of a property, or their agent, or a management company, to manage that property.
Local authority – An organisation, that amongst other responsibilities, owns or has responsibility for housing in its area or borough and/ or has responsibility for managing housing needs of people in that area. Stakeholder – Other local government organisation or group /or otherwise interested party.
Private Landlord – A person or entity who owns a property or properties and rents them out. A private landlord can be a person, company, or charity.
Resident/Tenant/Occupier – The resident, tenant or occupier rents the flat or owns the leasehold of the property but is not responsible for the building.
